Adds to existing law to prohibit public utilities from requiring the disclosure of social security numbers as a condition of receiving any product, commodity, or service provided by the public utility.
This legislation protects consumer privacy and data by prohibiting public utilities from requiring customers to divulge their social security numbers as a condition of receiving service.
Amends existing law to revise terminology and to clarify specified terms.
This legislation clarifies that the jurisdiction of the Idaho Public Utilities Commission does not include corporations or others owning, controlling, or operating a water system which delivers water to a single entity that is not subject to regulation by the Commission. It also confirms that homeowners associations, cooperative associations and water districts are not subject to regulation by the Commission.

This legislation protects consumer privacy and data by prohibiting public utilities from requiring customers to divulge more than four digits of their social security numbers as a condition of receiving service.

Amends and repeals existing law to streamline and simplify relevant code sections pursuant to the Governor's Red Tape Reduction Act.
As part of the Governor's Red Tape Reduction Act the Idaho Public Utilities Commission has gone through relevant code sections to streamline and simplify Idaho Code in Title 61 and 62. This legislation would repeal 35 sections of Idaho Code.
