Amends existing law to revise definitions and provisions regarding certain procedures performed by dental hygienists and to revise terminology.

Broadeningthedefinitionofanextendedaccessoralhealthcareprogrambyuseoftheterm"practicesetting" provides for the diversity of current practice models and would allow for additional locations at which oral health care may be delivered. Eliminating the requirement that a supervising dentist be affiliated with an extended access oral health care program will eliminate an access barrier. The addition of a requirement for dental hygiene written orders will ensure accountability between the dental hygienist and the supervising dentist.

This legislation changes the hours required for the practice of dentistry from 1,000 per year for five years to 3,500 over five years. 1,000 hours per year for 5 years does not take into consideration the changing circumstances of age, pregnancy, extended travel, or other life changes which may occur. 3,500 hours over 5 years allows more flexibility for lifestyle changes in the same timeframe.
