This legislation amends Section 33-118, Idaho Code, regarding courses of study and content standards for public schools. This legislation effectively repeals Common Core as a state requirement for school districts. When the State Board of Education uses Common Core standards, districts may adopt alternative content standards and associated curricular materials.

Adds to existing law to provide that a student sounding taps at a military honors funeral held in this state for a deceased veteran shall be allowed an excused absence, to provide for notice, to provide for the effect on the calculation of daily attendance and compulsory attendance and to provide for the completion of school work.
The purpose of this new legislation is to allow a student (grades 6-12) to play "Taps" at a military honors funeral for a deceased veteran. The student will be allowed an excused absence for the time away from school, but the student is required to make up any missed assignments.

The intent of this legislation is to require state agencies, state agents or state employees, to obtain legislative approval before entering into federal cost-sharing agreements and grants that would obligate the state of Idaho to any explicit or implied maintenance of efforts requirement. Maintenance of efforts would include expenditure of state funds and regulatory actions.
