STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The proposed legislation intends to establish a Legislative Interim Committee on housing which will complete a comprehensive review of local land use regulations and their impact on housing affordability and availability. This effort will include evaluating city comprehensive plans and zoning and ultimately seek to identify opportunities to reduce regulatory building costs and waiting times, and provide greater flexibility in housing development.

If this resolution is adopted by the Legislature and the committee is continued by the Legislative Council, any necessary legislator travel expense would be paid from the existing legislative appropriation to the Senate and House of Representatives. Funding for staff support and expenses would be provided from the existing appropriation to the Legislative Services Office. There would be no additional impact upon the state General Fund as a result of this Resolution.
