How to Find Your Idaho State Representative and Senator
Published June 27, 2026
Every Idaho resident is represented by three state legislators: two members of the Idaho House of Representatives and one Idaho state senator. All three represent the same legislative district, which is determined by your home address. Here's how to find yours and track their work.
Step 1: Find your legislative district
Idaho has 35 legislative districts. Your district number is based on your home address. The fastest way to look it up is the Idaho Legislature's official address-lookup tool at legislature.idaho.gov. Enter your street address and it returns your district number along with your current representatives and senator by name.

How Idaho's legislative districts work
Idaho has 35 legislative districts, each represented by two House members (Seat A and Seat B) and one senator — 105 legislators in total. Districts are redrawn every 10 years after the U.S. Census. The current district lines were set in 2021 based on the 2020 Census.
House members serve two-year terms; senators serve four-year terms. All 70 House seats are on the ballot every two years. Senate seats are staggered — roughly half of the 35 Senate seats are up each election cycle, so senators serve overlapping four-year terms. All 105 seats are on the ballot in 2026 because the 2022 redistricting cycle reset staggering.
How to contact your legislators
During session (typically January through April), the most effective ways to reach a legislator are:
- Phone or email via their page on legislature.idaho.gov
- Testify in person at a committee hearing when a bill you care about is being considered — committees are listed on the legislature's website and hearings are open to the public
- Visit them at the Idaho State Capitol, 700 W Jefferson St, Boise, ID 83720
Between sessions, legislators return to their home districts. Contact information remains listed on the legislature's site year-round.
Frequently asked questions
What if I live in a different city from my district number?
District numbers don't follow city or county lines. Your district is based solely on where you live. Use the address-lookup tool to be certain — don't guess by city name.
What's the difference between a representative and a senator?
Both vote on bills and serve on committees. The main differences are term length (House members serve 2 years, senators serve 4) and chamber. Some legislation originates in one chamber before crossing to the other; a bill must pass both chambers to reach the Governor.
What does a state legislator do between sessions?
Idaho has a part-time legislature. Between sessions, legislators may serve on interim committees that study issues and draft proposals for the next session, attend party caucus meetings, and return to their regular careers and home districts. Service as a legislator is not a full-time job for most members.
